Every company is different and therefore the employees and their personalities are different, too. How a personality melds with the culture of a company is often an indicator of their future success. In a company that has a whimsical vibe, it would be downright ignorant to expect a serious person to stay very long. A silly person isn’t going to thrive very well in a cubicle sort of environment. However, part of culture-melding has something to do with feeling welcome and represented, and that can only be done when one voice is individually heard among many. Here are a couple of ways to guarantee you’ll be heard.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask Questions

Don’t worry! It’s normal to want to talk to other people, and yourself too. In fact, it’s so normal that you may want to encourage it in some situations, especially when you’re new to a company. Ask how people are doing, and encourage them to ask questions about you, too. Show interest in a person and allow them to show interest in you and much of the time you’ll be viewed as ambitious, attentive, and friendly. Those are three traits that can win you a promotion and some friends, too.

Encourage Those Who Lead to Lead Well

It’s important to be liked, and it can be fun to be outgoing and personable so Friday nights aren’t as dull as they were when you were unemployed. However, it’s unwise to depend solely on your personality to get you to climb. Managers want to see that you’re a go-getter, so start helping them out with decisions they hesitate on, especially when you know something about what they’re having trouble with. Encourage people to lead with confidence and intelligence, and they’ll view you as a confident and intelligent person.
