av logoBeginning on Monday, July 27th and throughout this week we will be remotely upgrading all the antivirus protection on our customer's systems with a newer version of the agent software.  As part of the upgrade process, you will see your MAV icon changed to look like the blue and white shield shown here on the right.

What do you need to know?

  • The upgrade process will only take a few minutes per computer.
  • You don't need to do anything yourself. It will happen in the background.
  • You WILL likely see a warning that your antivirus is offline or that your system is unprotected. This is OK. The process removes the older antivirus engine first and replaces it with the new one immediately after. The process will take less than one minute on most computers.
  • You MIGHT see Windows Defender perform an update. That's ok too. It's part of the process.
  • Your computer will likely have to restart to finalize the setup of the upgraded Antivirus engine.
  • When the upgrade is complete, you should see the new shield logo. If you don't see it, then let us know, but we expect a 100% smooth upgrade process for everyone!

What do you need to do?

  • Nothing. Your computer might need to restart. If that's required, it will happen automatically.

What will be different after the upgrade?

There will be no discernible differences on your end after the upgrade as far as day-t0-today remote antivirus management goes. We will still be handling all your virus threats as they come in to our dashboard and we will still be removing them for your automatically. There are a few features that are new that you CAN utilize if you would like to though.

You can access the managed antivirus tool yourself.

As part of the upgrade you can more easily access the antivirus tool yourself if you'd like to check in on your statistics. If you want to see the MAV panel right-click the shield logo in your taskbar and select the "Show" option.

That will open the panel in a minimized view, such as shown below.

This panel tells you the current status of your managed antivirus engine as well as the last time it was updated with new definitions.

  • The Green Check tells you it's online and OK.
  • The Last Update text tells you when it was updated last.

If you would like to see more information, review your quarantine, run a scan yourself, or perform other utilities click on the double-arrows that point down to see the program in a larger window.

From here you can check the Status screen, Security Screen, and Events screens. You can run scans, review past scans, see your quarantined files, and check on the overall health of your antivirus protection.

Why did we upgrade and what changed?

For the last three years our managed antivirus platform has been run using the Vipre engine. It has never let us down and always performed well for our clients. We have absolutely no complaints with Vipre.

Over the last 12 months, Vipre has slipped to number two in the rankings as the best engine available, replaced in the number one slot by BitDefender's scanning engine. We want our customers to have the best available protection - after all that's what you're paying us for! We've replaced the engine that drives our antivirus product with the BitDefender scanning engine to keep you protected with the best solution available.  That and a few more options for our end users, such as running custom scans more easily, are why we upgraded. We've been testing this engine for three months and been VERY pleased with it's performance. We think you will be too!

What if I have questions about the antivirus upgrade?
